Our story

Three generations of grit.

Since 1978, Schaeffer's Tank & Truck Service has been Ohio's trusted partner for tank and trailer repairs. What started as a small family business has grown into the region's premier tank service facility, known for quality workmanship and reliable service.

Our ASME R-Stamp certification demonstrates our commitment to the highest industry standards. Every repair, modification, and fabrication project meets or exceeds strict safety and quality requirements, giving our customers confidence in our work.

Today, we combine traditional craftsmanship with modern technology to serve customers throughout Ohio and beyond. Our experienced team takes pride in solving complex challenges and getting you back on the road quickly and safely.

Milestones

Timeline

  • 1965
    Founded as Schaeffer Machine Co.

    Specialized in general machining; fabricated machinery guards, bases, frames, tanks, and performed welding. Founded by Jack Schaeffer Sr.; his son Jack began working there while in high school.

  • 1971
    Renamed Schaeffer Metal Products

    Company name changed to Schaeffer Metal Products.

  • 1972
    Moved to Ravenna warehouse

    Relocated to a small rented warehouse in Ravenna and operated there from 1972 to 1978.

  • 1978
    Relocated to Kent; incorporated and "U" Stamp achieved

    Moved operations to Kent, Ohio (1978 to 1981). Incorporated and attained the National Board "U" Stamp, permitting fabrication of ASME pressure vessels at the Kent facility.

  • 1981
    Moved to 357 Commerce Road, Ravenna

    Relocated to our current location at 357 Commerce Road in Ravenna, Ohio, the former Industrial Metal Products site where Jack Schaeffer Sr. had been a mechanical engineer.

  • 1982
    "R" Stamp achieved

    Attained National Board "R" Stamp, allowing alterations and repairs to ASME pressure vessels; held ever since. Primarily serviced carbon steel MC312 rubber-lined tank trailers hauling corrosives.

  • 1985
    Expanded to MC307 stainless tanks

    Expanded into servicing stainless steel MC307 tanks for the chemical industry.

  • 1989
    Expanded to MC306 petroleum trailers

    Began servicing MC306 trailers hauling petroleum and other non-corrosive liquid commodities.

  • 2000
    Third generation joins the business

    Jack Schaeffer Jr.'s son Jake started working while in high school; in 2010 he joined full time after college.

  • 2014
    MC330/MC331 and propane trucks

    Ventured into working on MC330/MC331 tank trailers hauling compressed gases (butane, propane, etc.) and, by extension, home delivery propane trucks.

  • 2015
    Technician training for meters and pumps

    Began sending technicians to service schools for Neptune Meters, Liquid Controls Meters, and Blackmer and Corken product pumps to better serve home delivery truck customers.

  • 2016
    Registered for liquid meter calibration

    Registered with the Ohio Department of Agriculture and purchased equipment to perform liquid meter calibration in-shop and on-site for propane and fuel custody transfer applications; enabled service for airports, fuel companies, and propane companies.

  • 2019
    Filed trade name: Schaeffer's Tank & Truck Service

    Filed a new trade name to better reflect servicing all mechanical and cargo tank needs for truck tanks and tank trailers.

  • 2022
    Expanded into truck hydraulic systems

    Expanded further into servicing and installing truck hydraulic systems as the industry moved toward hydraulically driven apparatus.

  • 2025
    Rechassis, upfitting, and gravimetric calibration

    Today we are increasing our footprint in truck rechassis and upfitting. As of March 2025, we purchased equipment to begin gravimetric calibration and to perform adjustments and repairs on bulk oil meters.

  • 2026+
    Looking ahead

    Going forward, we will continue maintaining our customer-centric focus that has driven our business since its inception over fifty years ago.
